考古队 长 Captain Archaeology

我 叫 许宏 ，还有 一个 别称 是 @考古人许宏 ，我 是 二里头 考古队 的 队长 。

我 是 1999 年 当 这个 队长 的 ，那 一年 之前 呢 ，我 从 本科 到 硕士 到 博士 到 大学 讲师 。 学 考古 干 考古 总共 已经 将近 20 年 了 ，而 我 去 的 那个 二里头 遗址 ，已经 发掘 了 40 年 。 那么 我 是 第三任 队长 ，我 也 属于 第三代 领导集体 。

说 到 我们 这 考古队 ，我们 这 考古队 大概 有 十个 人 吧 。 首先 我们 有 三个 人 ，我 手下 两个 兵 ，这 是 叫 研究 人员 ，现在 还 被 称为 「干部 」，因为 北京 来 的 吃 皇粮 的 。 这 三个 人 然后 再 往 下 呢 ，还有 六七个 技师 和 技工 。

这些 人 他们 不是 研究 历史 的 ，他们 特别 注重 基础 层面 的 工作 ，有 一些 水平 很 高 ，甚至 可以 说 是 身怀绝技 ，许多 活儿 比如说 钻探 发掘 辨土 认土 ，这些 东西 都 由 他们 来 完成 。

然后 我们 出土 物 ， 大部分 是 以 这种 破碎 的 状况 出来 ， 这是 陶片 ， 他们 就 负责 找 陶片 ， 合并 同类项 ， 把 它 粘到 一起 ， 然后 逐渐 逐渐 地 进行 复原 ， 这样 大量 的 复原 器 ， 都 是 他们 一点一点 修 出来 的 ， 用于 考古 研究 。 除此之外 比如说 ，绘图 摄影 写 记录 这些 ，都 是 他们 的 事 ，这是 我们 考古队 的 第二 梯队 。

第三梯队 那 就是 ，只要 开始 发掘 了 ，我们 就 从 当地 的 村里 雇佣 村民 ，作为 体力 劳动者 。 中国 的 农村 还 比较 有 活力 ，那 时候 年轻人 还 都 在 村里 ，所以 我们 要 聘用 壮劳力 都 有 ，还有 一些 辍学 的小姑娘 。

这样 一来 就 有 我们 的 大学生 ，跟 小女 民工 发生 恋情 的 。 你 想 啊 你 想 啊 ，比较 偏僻 的 村庄 年轻人 ，憧憬 和 向往 着 外面 的 世界 ，突然 间 来 了 这么 一帮 大学生 知识分子 ，整天 在 这个 比较 小 的 探方 里面 工作 ，然后 又 正值 豆蔻年华 ，难免 有 冒出 点 火花 来 的 。

所以 我们 圈子 里 就 流传 着 这么 一个 事 。 有 一个 考古 专业 毕业生 ，他 就 写 一 小说 ，小说 的 名 就 叫 《 油菜花 黄了 》 。 也 就是 每年 当 油菜花 黄 了 的 时候 ，考古队 开拔 了 ，考古队 一 开拔 这段 恋情 就 结束 了 。

那么 早些 年 呢 ，所以 听 起来 让 人 唏嘘 感叹 ，但是 现在 的 ，大学 考古 专业 老师 或者 像 我们 这样 的 领队 ，没有 这个 担忧 了 。 大家 看看 这个 合影 ，这是 我们 考古队 现在 发掘 之后 的一张 全家福 ，我们 看看 我们 现在 聘 的 这些 民工 ，那 就是 大婶 大妈 加 大爷 ，所以 要 发生 点 什么 事 是不可能的 ，所以 尽可 放心 。 这 是 我们 的 第三 梯队 。

要说 到 我们 这个 工作 呢 ，我们 考古 人 田野 考古 三 把 刷子 ，一 调查 二 钻探 三 发掘 。 现在 给 大家 放 的 这 张 图 就是 我 带着 我们 团队 在 野外 调查 。 我们 看上 图 ，我们 叫 地毯式 的 全 覆盖 式 的 踏察 ，隔 上 一段 放 一个 人 ，排成 一排 每个 人 一部 对讲机 ，一个 人 还 拎 一个 编织袋 ，随时 把 陶片 石器 之类 的 往里 放 。

然后 呢 我们 一 遇到 断崖 剖面 之类 的 就 非常 兴奋 ，因为 我们 说 考古 人 就是 破译 无字 地书 嘛 ，我们 就 从 这个 上面 来 搞清 地下 的 信息 。 所以 这样 呢 就 给 人 一种 感觉 ，四个 字 ，形迹 可疑 。 所以 经常 有 老乡 见 了 就 问 ，你们 到底 是 干嘛 的 神秘兮兮 的 。

没 办法 时间 一 长 ，我们 的 队员 就 干脆 编 了 顺口溜 自我 调侃 。 说 远 看 像 逃荒 的 ，近 看 像 要饭 的 ，仔细 一 问 是 社科院 的 ，原来 是 文物 调查 勘探 的 。 我们 最 拿手 的 绝活儿 ，刚才 我 说 了 叫 ，辨土 认土 。

你 比如说 ，墓葬 里 的 土 「五花土 」，这 东西 一打 出来 ，我 知道 这 是 个 墓 ，然后 宫殿 建筑 或者 城墙 的 土 。 因为 当时 夯过 非常 结实 ，夯土 。 那么 广场 或 路面 上 踩踏 过 像 千层饼 那样 的 土 ，路土 ，然后 像 垃圾坑 里 的 土 ，草木灰 都 有 ，实际上 古人 粪便 都 在 里面 ，现在 都 已经 干化 了 。

商代 的 土 汉代 的 土 ，我们 基本上 到 一个 地方 干 一段时间 之后 ，一看 就 知道 这 什么 时候 的 土 ，什么 土 。 那么 所以 说 ，大家 都 知道 郭沫若 先生 ，大 学问家 是 吧 ，然后 大家 说 考古学家 ，但是 你 到 考古 圈 去 问问 去 ，考古 圈内 的人 不 认 他 是 考古学家 ，只 认 他 是 历史学家 。 为什么 ？ 不 认土 ，不 知道 钻探 发掘 嘛 。

我们 说 我们 用 起来 最 得心应手 的 一个 利器 ， 就是 这 把 铲子 ， 钻探 用 的 ， 用 好 钢 打 的 。 然后 这个 半圆形 的 铲头 ，洛阳 铲 洛阳 盗墓贼 发明 的 ，现在 是 为 我 所用 。 说 一句 不谦虚 的话 ，到 目前 为止 全球 范围 内 ，任何 高精尖 的 钻探 仪器 设备 ，通通 都 没法 替代 它 。 所以 从 这个 意义 上 讲 ，这 实在 是 一项 极 有 中国 特色 的 发明 。

像 这个 铲子 的 这个 头 是 钢 的 ，那么 上边 呢 ？ 大家 看 套 上 木杆 就是 常规 长度 两米 多 ，基本上 一般 情况 下 够 了 。 如果 再 深 一点 的话 ，套上 竹竿 可以 到 四五米 。 如果 四五米 还 没 打 到底 的话 ，杆上 再 拴上 绳 ，利用 自由 落体 原理 ，可以 往下 打 十几米 。 就是 熟练 的 工人 ，往下 一 扔 啪 一 家伙 ，因为 它 比较 重 ，自由 落体 一下 扎 进去 了 ，然后 把 绳 一揽 出来 ，看 土 怎么样 。 五花 土 墓葬 挖 ， 盗墓贼 以前 就是 这么 干 的 ， 所以 一座 一座 墓 被 探出来 了 。

那 现在 我们 还 利用 这样 的 技术 ，所以 像 这种 破译 无字 地书 ，就是 这样 。 说起 在 中国 考古 发现 ，一般 都 是 无心插柳柳成荫 ，大部分 是 农民 和 施工队 发现 的 。 大家 都 清楚 ，最 著名 的 例子 秦始皇陵 兵马俑 是 吧 ，但是 也 有 例外 ，比如说 我 所在 的 这个 二里头 遗址 。

那 还 真 就是 前辈 老先生 ，为了 寻找 夏 王朝 的 文化 ，先 梳理 古典 文献 中 的 记载 ，有 线索 就在 豫西 晋南 这 一带 ，山西南部 河南 西部 这 一带 ，过来 找 ，这一下 还 真 就 找到了 这么 大 遗址 。 然后 呢 ，在 这个 遗址 上 ，我们 有 无数 可以 被 称为 超级 国宝 ，或者 中国之最 的 东西 出土 。

在 这里 给 大家 讲 的 一个 故事 。 就是 我 刚 接 队长 不久 ，我们 主要 是 在 宫殿 区 发掘 ，有 一天 2002 年 春天 ，有 一天 我 一个 年轻 队友 过来 悄悄地 跟 我 说 ， 许 老师 出 铜器 了 ，我 一 听 赶紧 跟 他 过去 一看 ，是 一个 铜铃 刚 露出 一点儿 。

我 意识 到 这个 应该 是 一座 贵族 的 墓葬 ，然后 后来 的 发掘 果然 证明 ，墓 里边 除了 铜器 之外 ，玉器 绿松石 器 漆器 ，还有 海贝 的 项链 一百多 件 器物 ，但 那个 时候 就 露出 这么 一点儿 来 ，不过 那个 时候 民工 已经 知道 这个 事儿 ，已经 保不住 密 了 。 所以 我 当即 决定 ，一个 是 抓紧 时间 清理 ，而且 从 现在 开始 一直 到 清理 完毕 ，全天候 地 盯守 。 那 这样 就是 白天 就 这么 一直 紧张 地 干 ，晚上 就 开始 值班 。

我 那 时候 还是 兵强马壮 的 ，当时 下面 有 三个 队友 四个 技师 ，还有 九个 来 考古队 实习 的 硕士生 和 本科生 ，所以 兵强马壮 ，大家 轮班 来 。 然后 把 我们 考古队 的 大 屁股 吉普 ，开 过去 北京 2020 ，车灯 开着 ，隔 一阵 就 冲着 那个 黑 魆魆 的 墓穴 照一照 ，严防死守 。

同时 又 从 邻村 借来 一个 大 狼狗 ，壮 我们 自己的 声势 。 这样 上半夜 还 挺 浪漫 的 ，男生 说说笑笑 数着 星星 ，还有 晚春时节 飘着 麦香 的 空气 ，挺 好 的 。 到 了 下半夜 的 时候 就 比较 难受 了 ，四月份 的 时候 就 有 温差 了 ，得 穿 大衣 ，但是 大家 还是 斗志昂扬 的 ，说 是 我们 在 给 二里头 贵族 「守夜 」。

白天 还 得 干活 ，白天 干活 清理 逐渐 逐渐 往下 做 。 然后 就 开始 和 其他 器物 一样 ，就 开始 出来 这种 绿松石 片儿 ，很小 的 绿松石 片儿 。 我们 当时 觉得 没有 意外 ，因为 二里头 很 早 就 出过 这样 的 东西 。 但是 这个 墓 很 怪 ，这个 墓 一往 下 做 ，整个 绿松石 片儿 范围 达到 70 公分 ，从 这个 墓 主人 的 肩部 一直 到 胯部 。

而 我们 刚才 给 大家 看 的 那个 小 铜牌 啊 ，那个 就是 15 公分 顶多 20 公分 ，一般 在 墓 主人 的 腰部 或者 是 胸部 ，那么 一下 这么 大 的 东西 而且 没有 铜托 ，也 就 意味着 它 是 原来 粘嵌 在 有机质 上面 的 ，也就是说 木头 或者 是 皮革 上 。 木头 和 皮革 腐烂 之后 ，只 剩下 这些 片 了 。

那么 这样一来 就是说 ， 我们 不要 说用 这个 竹签 来剔 这些 片 ， 就是 用 嘴 来往 上 吹 一下 ， 想 把 它 上面 的 土 粒儿 吹 去 的话 ， 都 有 可能 使 它 换 地方 移位 ， 都 会 把 它 吹飞 。 如果 那样 的话 呢 ，恐怕 这个 东西 就 保不住 了 。 我 总 说 考古学 本来 可以 说 是 研究 物 的 ，但是 我们 更 强调 ，考古学 与其说 是 研究 物 的 ，不如说 是 研究 物 背后 的 context ，就是 它 背后 的 这种 背景 关系 ，是 吧 ？

比如说 在座 的 朋友 ，或者 哪位 学生 没有 参加 过 考古 发掘 ？ 头 一次 去 很 兴奋 ，但是 领队 老师 又 不 在场 ，然后 他 见 这些 小 绿松石 片儿 ，他 就 见 一片儿 抠 一片儿 ，见 一片儿 抠 一片儿 。 老师 回来 ，他 说 老师 你 看 2000 多 片 绿松石 片儿 。 一下 很 高兴 ，重大 发现 ，所谓 文物 一件 都 不少 ，但是 context 它 所 镶嵌 的 那个 东西 呢 ？ 这个 是 考古 和 文物 收藏 的 最大 的 差别 。

这样 就是说 ，我 意识到 这样 清 不行 ，清得 越细 啊 ，越 不利于 文物 的 保护 和 以后 的 复原 。 而且 天长日久 连续 的 熬夜 守候 ，队员 们 也 都 非常 疲惫 。 加上 这个 文物 在 工地 上 每 多 呆 一天 ，就 又 多 一分 危险 。 然后 紧急 跟 我们 北京 考古所 的 科技 中心 联系 ，那个 技师 跟 我 说 ，那 还是 整体 起取 吧 ，把 它 整个 取回来 放在 室内 慢慢 清理 。

然后 好 ，那 就 这样 费 了 九牛二虎之力 ，因为 是 晚上 清 的 ，所以 没有 照片 。 大家 看 就是 这个 大 木 箱子 ，整个 就是 套箱 灌 石膏 用 铁丝 装 上 ，这样 终于 把 它 从 工地 请 回 了 我们 位于 二里头 村 的 考古队 ，然后 我们 再 把 它 运 到 北京 。

运到 北京 就 像 这么 清理 ，然后 这样 就是 它 的 真面目 才 出现 。 然后 我们 以前 做过 多种 想象 ，70 公分 的 东西 应该 是 个 什么 东西 呢 ？ 完全 心里 没底 ，但是 技师 把 我们 喊 过去 ，这 东西 清理 出来 我们 一看 呢 ，这 简直 是 就 觉得 ，以往 的一切 想象 都 黯然失色 。

居然 是 一条 保存 得 这么 好 的 大 龙 ！ 那么 你 站 在 它 的 正上方 俯视 它 ，你 看 它 好像 身子 和 尾巴 都 在 游动 ，然后 你 要是 逼近 它 那个 头 ，它 那 两双 白玉 镶嵌 的 眼睛 好像 也 在 瞪 着 你 ，催着 你 读出 它 的 身份 来 。 我们 的 专家 呢 管 这个 叫 「超级 国宝 」，就 这样 一件 东西 就是 这么 出来 的 。

这样 说 起来 ，总有 朋友 问 ，许 老师 你 当 队长 这 段 时间 有 很多 收获 ，最 令 你 激动 的 发现 是 什么 ？ 一般 记者 朋友 都 会 替 我 回答 ，就 应该 是 那个 绿松石 龙 ，因为 绿松石 龙 太 有名 了 。 但是 我 说 呢 还 不是 ，我 最 得意 的 还 应该 是 在 我 手里 ，中国 最早 的 城市 主干道 网 ，和 中国 最早 的 宫城 也 就是 紫禁城 ，在 我 手里 发现 了 。

因为 我 个人 是 做 城市 考古 的 ，那么 在 考古界 ，我 自称 我 是 做 「不动产 」的 。 我 是 玩 这个 宫城 城墙 啊 道路 啊 宫殿 建筑 四合院 紫禁城 这些 东西 ，这 是 我 的 强项 。 所以 我 要 搞清 这个 不动产 的 布局 ，这 是 我 最大 的 梦 。

这样 我们 就 先 翻 以前 前辈 留下来 那些 资料 ，寻找 蛛丝马迹 。 在 二里头 队看 先生 们 留下 的 发黄 的 记录 ， 然后 一看 1976 年 ， 我们 前辈 已经 探出 ， 大家 看 宫城 东面 这 条 大道 啊 ，200 米长 ， 但是 后来 由于 有 什么 事儿 ， 就 把 这个 放下 了 ， 放下 之后 ， 这个 就 只有 记录 在 这 写 着 。 我 非常 兴奋 ，意识 到 这个 道路 ，很 有 可能 就是 解开 二里头 宫殿 布局 的 一把 钥匙 ，然后 就 决定 继续 追探 。

在 这个 过程 中 ，中间 有 一天 ，一个 村民 过来 跟 我 说 ，许 队长 我家 那个 地 呢 ，小麦 长得 不好 ，你 看看 是 怎么回事 。 哎 唷 我 这 心里 一喜 ，因为 大家 知道 ，小麦 长得 不好 很 有 可能 是 ，由于 这个 地下 有 比较 坚硬 的 东西 ，渗水 不 畅 ，所以 导致 它 结构 异常 。

而 在 考古 遗迹 里面 ，最 有 可能 是 宫殿 建筑 。 因为 都 是 用 夯土 夯 的 ，用 夯具 夯 的 宫殿 建筑 或者 说 城墙 。 这个 一般 长得 不好 ，有的 时候 航片 上 都 能 看出 来 这个 城墙 呀 ，我 非常 兴奋 ，很 有 可能 是 这个 。 让 技工 过去 一 钻探 一看 ，不是 ，那 是 条 路 。 就是 这个 ，宫城 北边 这 条 东西向 的 路 。

这个 也 非常 令 我们 兴奋 ，因为 大家 知道 路 是 踩踏 之后 千层饼 似的 ，也 不 容易 渗水 ，这个 也 是 一个 很 好 的 线索 。 这个 顺藤摸瓜 往东 探 ，图上 注明 的 那个 井字形 大道 ，第一个 大 十字路口 ，就 跟 我们 前辈 探出来 那条 大道 呢 ，跟 那个 交上 了 。

这样 就是 ， 中国 最早 的 大 十字路口 发现 了 ， 然后 我们 接着 追探 那条 南北向 的 大道 ， 一下子 探出 了 700 米 。 这个 路 10 多 米 宽 ，有 一些 地方 达到 20 米 ，我们 队友 开玩笑 说 ，这 已经 达到 了 现代 道路 四 车道 的 标准 ，这个 是 具有 王气 的 ，只有 王都 才 有 这么 宽 的 道路 。

就 跟 我们 说 ，只有 北京 才 有 长安街 这么 宽 的 道路 是 一样 的 。 这个 非常 兴奋 ，就 这样 很 短 的 时间 内 ，我们 就 顺藤摸瓜 ，乘胜追击 把 这个 井 字形 的 大道 就 搞清楚 了 。 而 这个 井字形 大道 围起来 的 这个 空间 ，它 又 是 中国 最早 的 紫禁城 所在 。

我 说 说 起来 ，中国 最早 的 宫城 的 发现 也 挺 有意思 的 。 然后 我 的 一本 小书 叫 《 最早 的 中国 》， 在 那 里面 有 一节 ，我 把 它 叫 《 想出来 的 宫城 》。 因为 我们 著名 的 考古学家 苏秉琦 教授 呢 ，他 有 过 一段话 ，我 听课 的 时候 听着 的 。 他 说 在 考古 工作 中 啊 ， 你 只有 想到 什么 你 才能 挖 到 什么 ， 实际上 各行各业 都 是 这么 个理儿 。

但 当时 做 学生 吧 ，还 不 理解 。 想 这 怎么 理解 ，这 甚至 还 有点 唯心主义 的 感觉 。 但是 在 以后 的 工作 实践 中 啊 ，你 就 痛感 这句 话 的 分量 太 深刻 。 ，我 接手 二里头 二里头 已经 挖 了 40 年 了 ，我 的 前辈 一直 想 找 城墙 ，但是 一直 没有 找到 。 但是 这个 二里头 宫城 城墙 在 我 手里 找到 了 。

所以 有 朋友 就 说 许宏太 幸运 了 ，实际上 呢 我 知道 我 是 有 一整套 思考 的 。 因为 我 在 做 博士论文 的 时候 ， 我 就 梳理 过 中国 早期 城市 发展 过程 ， 就 意识 到 在 早期 城市 里边 ， 它 外围 大 的 城圈 ， 是 可有可无 的 ， 有 的 有 ， 有 的 没有 。

二里头 到 现在 为止 ，还 没有 发现 一个 大 的 城圈 。 那 它 有 没有 完全 取决于 ，当时 的 需求 情况 是不是 有 防御 上的 需求 ，跟 它 的 政治 军事 形势 都 有 很大 的 关系 。 但是 我 坚信 作为 统治 中心 王室 重地 的 宫殿 区 ，不 应该 是 开放 的 ，因为 政治性 这种 决策 就是 有 封闭性 和 独占性 。

那么 正是 有 了 这样 一个 信念 ，二里头 宫殿 区 也 应该 有 防御 设施 ，所以 我 就 顺着 这个 思路 ，就 按 胡适 先生 说 的 大胆 假设 小心 求证 ，看看 究竟 有没有 。 那么 在 这 之前 ，我 刚才 跟 大家 讲过 ，我们 前辈 已经 发现 了 这么 一条 大道 。 大家 看 紧接着 它 这个 西边 就是 二号 宫殿 ，这 二号 宫殿 的 东墙 外 就是 大路 了 。 那么 大路 以外 就 不是 宫殿 区 了 ，因为 都 是 一些 小 的 房子 已经 不是 贵族 住 的 了 。

这 条 大路 和 二号 宫殿 的 这个 东墙 ，它 就 应该 是 宫殿 区 的 东缘 ，这是 可以 肯定 的 。 那 它们 之间 已经 不 可能 再 有 城墙 或者 是 壕沟 出现 了 ，而 这样 那 就是 一个 推测 。 就是 如果 有 宫城 城墙 的话 ，那么 二号 宫殿 的 东墙 ，就 应该 是 利用 宫城 东墙 建 的 ，就 应该 它们 是 一条线 的 。

那么 我 就 在 这个 ，现在 二号 宫殿 的 东北 揭开 一看 ，果然 二号 宫殿 的 东墙 继续 向 北 去 。 然后 我 又 把 二号 宫殿 的 这个 东南角 揭开 ，然后 再 进一步 扩大 面积 一看 ，它 又 往南 去 了 。 那么 2003 年 我 记得 非常 清楚 ，十年 以前 到 五月 下旬 ，这条 墙 已经 确认 了 300 多米 了 ，而且 后来 我们 又 找到 了 宫城 东北角 。 那么 这样 就是 2003 年 ，在 我 40 岁 生日 的 前夕 ，我 觉得 中国 最早 的 宫城 就 紫禁城 的 发现 ，是 我 自己 收到 的 一份 最 厚重 的 礼物 。

到 了 第二年 ，我们 又 乘胜追击 ，把 这 四面 墙 都 找到 了 。 确认 中国 最早 的 宫城 超过 十万 平方米 ，它 建于 距今 3700 年 左右 ，别看 它 的 面积 只有 现在 明清 紫禁城 的 七分之一 ，但 它 是 以后 所有 中国 古代 宫城 的 鼻祖 ，就是 这样 一个 发现 。

这 说了 半天 绿松石 龙 啊 宫城 城墙 啊 ，这些 东西 都 是 统治者 用 的 ，所以 我们 觉得 它 很 重要 ，它 可以 说明 金字塔 塔尖儿 。 但是 实际上 考古 人 也 关心 普通 百姓 的 生活 起居 ，一些 生活 细节 ，他们 吃 什么 他们 用 什么 他们 扔 什么 。 从 某种 意义 上 来讲 ，考古学 就是 一门 关于 垃圾 的 学问 。 是不是 ？ 我们 一切 一切 的 发掘 对象 都 是 废墟 和 垃圾堆 ，但是 我们 能 从 其中 探出 许多 宝物 来 。

现在 给 大家 放 的 这个 ，就是 我们 把 垃圾 坑里 的 土 和 地层 里面 的 土 ，通过 浮选 ，就是 用 水 来 冲洗 这个 土 ，到 最后 让 这些 粮食 颗粒 浮上来 。 哦 我们 知道 二里头 时代 的 那些 人 ，已经 五谷 齐备 了 ，就是 通过 这样 的 手段 ，来 探究 一些 历史 的 细节 。

那么 到 明年 二里头 遗址 发现 与 发掘 ，已经 到 了 第 55 个 年头 。 而 我 自己 作为 二里头 队 队长 ，也 干 到 了 第 15 个 年头 。 二里头 都 邑 总共 300 万 平方米 ，这 几代人 下来 我们 发掘 了 多少 平方米 呢 ，我们 只 挖 了 4 万 多 平方米 ，也 就是 1% 多一点儿 ，绝对 的 冰山一角 。

但是 已经 有 刚才 跟 大家 说 的 那样 重大 收获 了 。 可以 想 一想 ，这 就是 跟 愚公移山 一样 ，就是 一个 大 遗址 ，一个 都 邑 遗址 是 需要 几 代 人 十几 代 人 ，甚至 更多 代 的 人 ，踏踏实实 一步 一个 脚印 工作 的 。

考古 人 就是 凭着 这个 劲儿 。 用 我 太太 的话 来说 就是 ，这 考古 人 都 是一根筋 ，一生 只 干 一件 事 ，但 一定 要 有 这样 的 劲儿 ，才能 把 这件 事 做好 。

那么 我们 说 几年 之前 ，我 的 一本 小 书 《 最早 的 中国 》 。 我 在 那里 边 介绍 了 ，关于 二里头 大量 的 它 的 中国之最 ，这个 都 邑 遗址 它 在 中国 文明史 上 ，开创 新 纪元 的 这样 的 历史 地位 。

但是 我 更 想 说 的 是 ， 与其说 我们 这 几代人 的 探索 解决 了 什么 问题 ， 不如说 我们 提出 了 更 多 的 新 的 问题 ， 它 在 引导 着 我们 进一步 探索 ， 引导 我们 最大 限度 地 迫近 历史 的 真实 。

说 到 考古学 是 研究 人 的 学问 ，考古学 只 研究 人 ，人 以前 的 不 归 考古 人 管 ，那么 光是 人 的 历史 ，大家 知道 已经 二三百万年 了 。 如果 把 人类 历史 300 万 ，把 它 假设 为 24 小时 的话 ，那么 到了 半夜 11 点 57 分 之后 ，才 进入 有 文字 记载 的 历史 。 而 中国 的 文字 出来 的 更 晚 ，不到 两 分钟 ，就是 在 这 两三 分钟 之内 ，才 有 文字 记载 。

而 这 之外 的 漫长 人类 发展史 ，要 想 搞清 它 的 过程 ，复原 它 的 轨迹 ，要 想 回答 我们 是 谁 我们 是 怎么 来 的 。 诸如此类 这样 的 问题 ，那 只能 是 靠 考古学 了 ，这是 老王 卖瓜 自卖自夸 。

想 起来 这个 著名 小说家 张承志 先生 ，他 是 我们 考古 专业 毕业 的 。 张承志 先生 说 过 这么 一段话 ，他 说 仿佛 这个 满身 泥土 的 学科 ，有 一句 严厉 的 门规 那 就是 ：或者 作为 特殊 技术 工人 告终 ，或者 攀援 为 思想家 ，在 这条 路上 探索 没有 止境 ，我们 还 在 前行 ，我们 企图 透物 见 人 ，也就是 透过 那些 冷冰冰 的 遗物 ，来 窥探 它 背后 的 古人 ，探知 他们 的 行为 甚至 思想 。
