Adverbs
Advérbios
Adverbs in Irish are invariable
Meaning that they do not vary according to the gender, number or person of the word they are modifying. They are flexible, and can usually fit anywhere logical in the sentence.
Many adverbs are formed by adding the particle go ('-ly') to the adjective.
Go mall = slowly | Go maith = well | Go minic = often | Go tapa = fast | Go hannamh = rarely |
Adverbs for time/place are usually placed at the end of the sentence
Example: | Téann sí go dtí an siopa go minic = She goes to the shop often. | Tháinig sé inniú = He came today |
Adverbs of negation usually come at the end of the sentence
Ní dhearna sé é riamh = He never did it before |
Other useful adverbs
De ghnáth = usually | I gcónaí = always | B’fhéidir = maybe |
